RAJOURI, Oct 29: Irate residents of Thannamandi, Hasplot and Pangai area today held protest demonstration against Health and Medical Education authorities and blocked Rajouri-Thannamandi-Bafliaz Road for about half an hour.
The people, including youth shouted loud slogans against Health Minister Ch Lal Singh, Director Health Services Jammu and CMO Rajouri. They also raised slogans against SDM Thannamandi and local Medical staff. They alleged that no medical facilities are available in this hospital. The patients are not even provided bandage, glucose bottles, syringes or medicines. Even minor injury cases are referred to District Hospital, Rajouri by the local staff. There is no accountability at all. Doctors do not attend their duty here and there is no monitoring by the CMO or other officers in the Administration. The general public has been left to suffer. The Health Minister Ch Lal Singh makes tall claims of bringing improvement in the system but here nobody bothers for him. The Health Minister do not pays any visit to this neglected area and has focus only at Jammu and Kathua.
The trouble started when a 5-year-old boy Mohd Kashav, son of Mohd Kabir, resident of Hasplot village was removed to Thannamandi hospital by the family after he was hit by an unknown bike. The boy was returning from his school when the mishap took place. He sustained injury on his head and other parts. The family members and relatives of the accident victim were shocked on the behaviour of the Medical staff at local Thannamandi CHC. No treatment was provided at this hospital by the staff and they asked them to take him to Rajouri hospital. There was not even syringe or any medicine for the treatment of the boy. When the family asked to provide ambulance, they were told that Ambulance was not available. This irked the family members and relatives of the victim. They had heated arguments with the Medical staff over the matter.
The injured boy was then shifted to District Hospital, Rajouri in private vehicle. Later, the local youth and relatives of the victim came out on main Rajouri-Thannamandi-Bafliaz road and raised barricades. They started protest demonstration against the Health authorities. Youth leaders Sajjad Khan, Javed Iqbal and Umar Mir were leading. Public protest continued for about half an hour. Then SDM Thannamandi, Ashwani Kumar and SDPO, Iftikhar Talib reached the spot. They assured the agitating villagers to take up the matter with the higher authorities in the Health Department. The villagers then lifted dharna and allowed movement of the vehicles.
