RAJOURI, Nov 9: Residents of Bela Colony, Rajouri today staged a strong protest against the Rajouri Municipal Council and the District Administration for setting up a garbage dumping station near a local mosque.
The protest saw massive participation from the local populace, who raised slogans and expressed outrage over the irresponsible act of dumping waste in a densely populated residential area.
The protesters alleged that Municipal Council vehicles have been regularly unloading garbage collected from various parts of the city right next to the mosque. They said that the foul smell and unhygienic conditions have made life miserable for residents and worshippers who visit the mosque daily.
“The stench is unbearable, and heaps of garbage have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, posing a serious threat of dengue and other diseases,” one of the protesters said.
The residents revealed that they had earlier met Deputy Commissioner Rajouri regarding the issue and were assured that the dumping would be stopped and the garbage removed. However, despite repeated appeals, the problem persists, and garbage continues to be dumped at the same location.
The protesters warned that if the Municipal Council fails to take immediate action and remove the garbage from the site near the mosque, they will be forced to intensify their agitation. They demanded the intervention of higher authorities to ensure the relocation of the dumping point and restoration of a clean and hygienic environment in the area.
