JAMMU, Sept 8: District Congress Committee (DCC), Jammu Rural today urged the Lt Governor’s Administration to protect water bodies and `Khads’ from some BJP leaders, who are responsibile for massive encroachment in Jammu region.
In a meeting of the DCC functionaries held here today the speakers raised concerns over the encroachment of Government land in Jammu and conversion of religious places into public parking by Govt on the best of some BJP leaders.
While expressing anguish over the unchecked land grabbing in areas of Jammu, PCC vice president and former minister Mula Ram said that the ignorance of authorities and corruption within the departments has led to this serious condition of encroachment.
Mula Ram said that not only the land grabbers, but the current regime is equally responsible for the vast encroachment in different parts of Jammu city. “These encroachers roam freely while the authorities are null to take action against them,” he said.
DCC president Hari Singh Chib, who presided over the meeting raised serious concern over the unchecked encroachment of Govt land in various areas of Jammu and appealed to the Government to protect the water bodies and lands along Khads in and around Jammu.
“Govt land is being encroached upon at outskirts as well as within the city areas with the alleged mismanagement and connivance of JMC/JDA as exposed through the letter of a senior IAS officer. The administration has been busy in converting religious places into public parking while land grabbers go unounished,” Chib said.
DCC chief appealed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to order a fair probe to check the allotment of state lands for the last five years and status of Khad land which has being encroached upon so that the Govt land could be retrieved from the encroachers.
Present on the occasion, Youth Congress president, Uday Chib said the present regime has failed to counter and curb the state and Khad land encroachment besides failing to retrieve the land encroached on various water bodies in Jammu.
PYC president said that there is an urgent need to retrieve all the state land encroached by the land grabbers for years on. “Govt should refrain from converting the religious places into public parking,” Chib added.
