JAMMU, Jan 18: General Category Peoples’ Front (GCPF), have urged upon the Government to protect the futureof the talented youth of the General Category and do justice with the country’s shining educated youth.
In a meeting of the Front held here today the members discussed in detail the key issues related to reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir. Yash Paul Sanson, president of the Front said that the main aim of the Front is to struggle for the redressal of the concerns of the General Category people including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and others. He welcomed the decision of the J&K Government to take a comprehensive review of the existing provisions of reservation policy in response to growing concerns from various sections of society, including youth from General Category who felt that their basic rights of equality and justice were being compromised.
Front urged law makers to come forward for saving the future of talented youth who are being time and again victimized due to irrational and divisive policy of reservation. Front demanded the ending of social and economic disparities of marginalized families but sought ways to address these issues without compromising merit, Reservation polity needs to effect some alternative policies or modifications to the existing rules and laws to promote inclusively fairness, equality and justice.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary of the Front demanded introduction of domiciliary provisions in Jammu and Kashmir in the lines of prevailing in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh regarding acquisition of land and property. He stressed on the end of all kinds of freebies, subsidies and cash money to lessen the burden of heavy taxes imposed on people causing unprecedented price rise and tax terrorism.
He demanded that people be provided electricity and water supply and other amenities on cheap, reasonable rates cutting at least 50% of existing rates and service charges. Government should provide monetary assistance and Special Support Measures (SSM) to all deserving and needy families in place of reservation. Necessary steps be taken to end immorality of political leadership which is behind the continuation of caste, class and religion based discrimination which has been pinching 70 percent voters as it has evil effects on socio-economic and political spheres all over the country. Reservation cannot be forever and we should explore some via-media through review of the existing reservation policy.
