Property worth lakhs of rupees damaged in Shopian fire

SRINAGAR: Property worth lakhs of rupees was damaged in a fire incident in south Kashmir district of Shopian, official sources said on Thursday.

They said fire broke out in a house at Gujjar Basti Borihalan in Shopian in the early hours Thursday.

However, before the fire tenders could reach the spot and douse the flames, fire spread to nearby houses.

They said four houses and other property were damaged in the incident, they said, adding the cause of fire was not known.

Meanwhile, District Shopian president of All India Confederation of SC/ST organization Choudhary Showkat Shabir Kalas alleged that two houses were damaged due to negligence of fire and emergency department.

He demanded immediate compensation to affected families from the district administration so that they could reconstruct their houses again before the snowfall. (AGENCIES)
