JAMMU, July 23: Prominent citizens of Jammu expressed concern on the move to commercialize Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex.
After an online meeting of prominent citizens, Gulchain Singh Charak, former Vice Chairman Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society claimed that participants in the meeting convened that attempt at commercialise the heritage and cultural identity of nationalistic Dogras means hurting their sentiments.
He said speakers in the meeting said, the complex was a protected monument, under the J&K Ancient Monuments Preservation Act which does not permit such use of a protected monument, and therefore the move to lease out Mubarak Mandi for commercial purpose is violation of the law.
He further disclosed that it was unanimously resolved in the meeting that the move to lease out the heritage complex to a private party for conversion into a hotel be brought immediately to the notice of Manoj Sinha, LG J&K with request to intervene.
It was also resolved that the conservation of the heritage complex as per the approved comprehensive conservation plan may be expedited as already announced by LG Manoj Sinha.
