SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Chief Spokesperson of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and senior leader Mehboob Beg today said that profiling Masjids and Imams in Kashmir amounts to a clear violation of the Constitution of India.
Speaking to reporters in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, Beg said the Constitution, framed by eminent leaders including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, clearly lays down the principles on which the country is to be governed.

“If one reads the Constitution of India, it guarantees not only the freedom to practise one’s religion but also the freedom to preach it. Any attempt to profile mosques or religious leaders goes against these constitutional guarantees,” he said.
Beg alleged that those in positions of authority take an oath to uphold the Constitution but end up violating it.
“They swear by the Constitution, yet their actions are in complete contradiction to it. This is nothing but a violation of the Constitution,” he added.
The PDP leader also criticised what he termed as double standards in global politics, particularly of the United States.
Referring to international conflicts, Beg said the US claims to represent a civilised world but its actions often belie those claims.
“They express solidarity with protesters in Iran against their Government, but where was that solidarity when the people of Gaza were subjected to serious human rights violations, which many have described as genocide?” he asked.
He warned that such selective approaches and foreign policies based on double standards and destruction could have grave consequences. “If this continues, the world is inching towards destruction,” Beg said.
