JAMMU, June 2: Emphasizing for well thought out multi-pronged strategy to tackle the problems in troubled Kashmir, the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta today said that the first and foremost need is to check the sources of funding the violence, radicalization and the abuse of social media which are main causes in aggravating the unrest.
The cross border terror should be fought with heavy hand by telling Pakistan that enough is enough as there is a limit to tolerate any mischief, he added and also stressed for exposing the outdated politicians having the old habit of changing colours in competitive secessionism especially when out of power.
Interacting with a group of students of history, who wanted to know the genesis of the problems in the State, moreso in the Valley, Prof. Gupta said the theocratic Pakistan was created with a design by the imperialists to have foot hold even after the independence of India and Kashmir was made a pawn but for its strategic importance as the frontiers of this State touches the then Soviet Union and some other countries which stood with the Russian block in the global cold war.
He recalled that Pt. Prem Nath Dogra was a great visionary and had opposed to any kind of communal division. His main argument was that religion was to worship the God to seek peace, prosperity and tranquility but cannot form basis for any kind of nationhood. If it was so, then in the world there would have been one country of Muslims, one of Christians , one of Budhists and so on, but there is nothing of this kind.
Prof. Gupta also said that in a way Kashmir is core of India as it cannot be separated because of its having majority of people with particular religious faith. Its being an integral part strengthens the belief of living and flourishing all the faiths together, which is known as Secularism and pluralism.
As far as legal position is concerned, he pointed out that newly born theocratic Pakistan invaded to grab J&K by use of force without any legal authority whereas Indian troops landed at Srinagar on October 27, 1947 to push back the invaders, only after the Maharaja of the State had signed the Instrument of Accession by using his legal authority on October 26, 1947.
Prof. Gupta said that Pakistan had no locus Standi in this State and its position is mere that of an aggressor and usurper.
Prof Gupta questioned the leaders of National Conference and their likes in the Congress that why they did not have solution of the problems when they were in authority for so many years as all these issues had come up about three decades back when they were in Government.
