JAMMU, Apr 7: Chenab Valley Autonomous Hill Development Council held a meeting under the chairmanship of its chief patron Sheikh Abdul Rehman to discuss the grim situation arising out of recent rains and snowfall in the entire Chenab valley comprising of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts.
On the occasion, various speakers expressed their grave concern over the situation.
They stated that recent incessant rains in the entire Chenab valley have resulted into huge loss of life, property, horticulture, agriculture, adding that thousand of houses have been damaged fully or partially, roads have been washed way and cracks have developed, electric poles have fallen, supply of essential commodities has been snapped, many fields have also been damaged partially and there is acute scarcity of life saving drugs.
Under these circumstances, aerial trips to the Chenab valley by some Ministers and MLAs is of no use to the public as they should oversee the rescue works as most of the link roads are blocked and the passengers are stranded at many stations.
They urged the Government to ensure re-opening of main and link roads on war footing, rush up essential commodities, restore electric supply and release of 6 months free ration so as the provide immediate succor to the trapped hapless poor people of the area. They also demanded compensation to the people for loss of life, horticulture, houses, etc.
They further impressed upon the Government to open IIT in Chenab Valley region so that thousand of illustrious students of the area get benefitted.
While speaking, Sheikh Abdul Rehman said that the only way to give an end to the age old discrimination with this region is the grant of Hill Development Council for Chenab Valley on Leh and Kargil pattern.
