JAMMU, Apr 30: The SSP Samba, Anil Mangotra has ordered a probe into alleged seizure of money by Purmandal Police and the wrongful confinement of two camel merchants from Haryana.
When contacted SSP Samba said that as the matter was brought into his notice, he ordered a probe through SDPO Bari Brahmana under whose jurisdiction the Purmandal Police Station falls to ascertain the facts.
Mangotra said that SDPO Bari Brahmana has called the complainants to PS Purmandal to take their statements and ascertain the facts about the allegations leveled by them. He said action will be taken on the basis of inquiry finding by SDPO and no one will be spared if found guilty.
Earlier at a press conference some residents of Purmandal alleged that the innocent people of the area are being harassed by the Purmandal Police. Talking to reporters Kala Ram S/o Suraj Ram of village Jalki and Kamal Kumar, S/O Mohan Lal of Bhirdana of district Fatehbad Haryana said they often visit to J&K to collect the money as they sell camels to the people in this part of the State on credit basis.
They said on April 26 they received the money from Attah Mohammed of Bari Khad , Joginder Singh resident of Moutlian, Reham Din resident of Bari Khad and Ghara resident of Nandaka. They had a night stay at residence of Raj Ali at Ghar falling under the jurisdiction of PS Purmandal.
They said that during late night SHO Javed Chowdhary picked up them along with police party from the house of Raj Ali and kept them in wrongful custody in Police Station and the money to the tune of Rs 73000 which was collected by them was also seized by the police. After questioning SHO released them but returned only Rs 34,000 out of 73,000 seized by the police.
They said when they asked the SHO that their entire money should be returned, he threatened them that he would involve them in a criminal case. Even the people of the area also requested the SHO to release them and return their money but he did not pay any heed.
The people of Purmandal, while expressing serious concern over the issue have made an appeal to Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to get the matter probed and take action against the erring police men.
