Samba Nov 3: The Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today inaugurated a Career Guidance Programme for Girls under RMSA at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Samba.
The Programme was also attended by MLA Samba Dr D.K. Manyal, DDC Sheetal Nanda, Director Horticulture Bhawani Rakwal, Joint Director Education, Darshan Lal, CEO Samba O. P Bhagat, AD Employment Naresh Kumar, Principal J.K Raina and other officials.
The Career Guidance Programme will be organised in each of the 15 GGHSS of the district by the District Employment and Counselling Centre , Samba where girl students will be introduced to career options after schooling. The programme’s main emphasis is on idea that a career should be chosen based on one’s aptitude and skills rather than decisions as a result of peer or any other influence.
The programme will be having subject matter specialists, who will interact with girl students and guide them accordingly. A special guide for the purpose having complete details of career options, related training institutes and websites has also been prepared which will be provided to all girl students.
The Minister appreciated the programme and initiatives of District Administration like Self Defence Programme for Girls and other female centric campaigns launched in the district. Speaking on the topic ‘Career in Politics’, she highlighted the less participation of women in politics. She further said that every woman is a leader in her own sphere and these leadership qualities need to be inculcated at initial stages.
Later, the Minister also visited Govt ITI Samba and inspected the functioning of the institute. She directed the Superintendent ITI to have special focus with regard to ‘On the Job’ training of students in different industries and to organise EDI facilitation camps in the institute. The Minister was informed that the ITI is planning a tie up with Hyundai to bridge the gap between the skill required by the Industry vis a vis the curriculum of ITI students in Mechanic Motor vehicle trade.
The Minister along with MLA Samba, DDC Samba and Director Colleges Renu Goswami also took a review meeting of the functioning of Govt Degree College, Samba. She gave directions to the Director Colleges for submission of a comprehensive report on infrastructure requirements for upgradation of the college. The Minister also met the farmers at Govt Fruit Plant nursery, Vijaypur and supervised the orchardists awareness camp organized there.
Meanwhile, Priya Sethi reviewed the functioning of Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC).
The Minister took account of the performance by JKTDC in the Jammu division including the status of infrastructure, facilities provided and allied facilities like transportation, sightseeing tours, cultural events organized etc.
The Minister said that a better sync mechanism is being established wherein various departments including Tourism, JKTDC, Floriculture etc will work in close coordination to ensure maximum development of all tourist sites and ensure increase in influx of tourists in these areas. She further said that packages are being developed to attract tourist and smoothen their trip to make it hassle free.
Managing Director JKTDC Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary gave a detailed overview of the physical and financial achievements of the organization and informed about the projects recently accomplished by the JKTDC including that of Corporate Office TRC Srinagar, Pahalgam Club & Convention Centre, and reconstruction of Zaiqa Guest House & Restaurant Tangmarg.
The chair was further informed about the future projects of the Corporation including construction of Royal Block in TRC Srinagar with an estimated project cost of Rs 800 lakh. The project includes 30 Premium Double-Bedrooms, Gymnasium, Laundry, Library, Open Air Restaurant, Parking in Ground Floor apart from other basic facilities and is expected to be completed in 18 months time.
The second project in the ambit of JKTDC is the construction of Tawi View Block in TRC Jammu comprising of 48 Premium Double-Bedrooms, Open Air Restaurant, 2-Layer Parking apart from other basic facilities. The project being executed at an estimated cost of 1300 lakh is expected to be complete in 24 months.
It was also given out in the meeting that JKTDC is also working on intensifying the marketing and publicity of the Corporation properties through Online and Offline modes.
