Prez to interact with students of Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya to mark Teachers’ day

NEW DELHI :  President Pranab Mukherjee will assume the role of a teacher today when he interacts with students and teachers of Dr Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in the President’s Estate to mark Teachers’ day.
It is perhaps for the first time in the history of Independent India that a  President of the country will interact with the students and teachers.
The President’s interaction with teachers and students is a part of the initiative of the Delhi Government ‘Be a Teacher’ in which renowned personalities from different walks of life like art, culture, sports, business, politics and civil services will take class for students and inspire kids to achieve excellence in life.    Sources in Delhi Government said Mr Mukherjee will give lessons in Political Science to students.
This idea was given by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to the President, who liked it and gave his consent for the same.
The President will be holding a joint class for class XI and XII students of the Dr Rajendra Prasad Sarvodhya Vidyalaya.  He will then interact with the teachers.
The President will on the occasion receive the first copy of the school Magazine Gyanoday which will be released by Mr Kejriwal.
Ahead of the President’s interaction with the students, Mr Kejriwal said he was delighted that the President was teaching children today.
I spent an hour wid Pranab Mukh a few days back. He is a storehouse of knowledge on politics, history n constitution. That combined wid rich experience n anecdotes from his own life – it is engrossing listening to him. We all r delighted that he is teaching children today. He is like a guru for all of us, Mr Kejriwal posted on micro-blogging site twitter.
The address of the President to students and teachers will be telecast live on Doordarshan (News) Channel from 1155 hrs to 1255 hrs and 1325 hrs to 1335 hrs respectively.
Mr Sisodia said it will be a moment of pride and honour for all teachers to see the first citizen of the nation become a teacher.    Teachers are the sculptors of a mature and evolved society.
On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the President will assume the role of a teacher. Teachers play the most important role in our community and deserve our highest respect and gratitude,Mr Sisodia said.
The Aam Aadmi Party said their government in Delhi under Education Minister Manish Sisodia has made education a top priority.
The entire machinery is making every effort at making Delhi’s education system world class.    On earlier occasions Mr Mukherjee and his former President A P J Abdul Kalam have held interactions with students.    In his address to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day, the President had stressed  on “guru-shishya” (Teacher-Student) relationship.
“What has happened to quality (education), from base to apex We recall the guru-shishya parampara with legitimate pride; why then have we abandoned the care, devotion and commitment that is at the heart of this relationship” he had said in his address. (AGENCIES)
