Prez pays tributes to Ambedkar on 126th birth anniversary

NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee today led the nation in paying tributes to B R Ambedkar on his 126th birth anniversary.

At a programme organised on the forecourts of Parliament House, President Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to the architect of the constitution.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and several members of Parliament were present.

Later, at an event organised in the Central Hall of Parliament, Mahajan, BJP vetean L K Advani, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and several union ministers paid floral tributes at the portrait of Ambedkar.

The portrait of B R Ambedkar was unveiled in the Central Hall by then Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh, on April 12, 1990. (AGENCIES)
