Prevented terrorist attacks on Jewish sites in 2 regions: Russian FSB

MOSCOW, Oct 6: The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said today that it had prevented terrorist attacks on Jewish religious sites in the Krasnoyarsk and Stavropol territories.

“The Federal Security Service of Russia prevented terrorist attacks on Jewish religious sites in the Krasnoyarsk and Stavropol territories, which were planned by supporters of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia,” the FSB said in a statement.

As a result of the measures taken in Krasnoyarsk, two individuals from one of the Central Asian countries were detained, the statement read, adding that they were preparing to detonate an improvised explosive device on the territory of the city synagogue.

” A Russian citizen was also detained in (the city of) Pyatigorsk for planning to set fire to the building of the Jewish religious community using Molotov cocktails. Two knives and communication equipment containing correspondence with a foreign coordinator of criminal activity on the Telegram messenger were also seized from him,” the FSB said.

The attacks were planned under the pretext of protecting the interests of Palestinian citizens affected by the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the statement read, noting that in reality, the plan was to provoke mass protests in Russia similar to the anti-Semitic riots in the Republic of Dagestan in October 2023.
