Preservation of Mubarak Mandi

Sir,
This refers to the editorial’ Crumbling heritage Complex'(DE, June22,2015).It is sad that the famous heritage monument ‘Mubarak Mandi Complex’,the seat of the Dogra royalty in the yesteryears and one of the oldest buildings in Jammu,is losing its sheen and grace due to the apathy and lack of interest of the agency roped in by the State Government with the aim to protect and preserve its beauty and original structure. The pace at which the maintenance and restoration work is going on shows the utter lack of interest of the agency entrusted with the responsibility of preserving this valuable monument.Unless steps are taken to restore its pristine beauty and grandeur, this dilapidating monumental heritage may lose much of its original beauty and grace due to weathering and natural wear and tear. Therefore, there is an urgent need to seek the services of agencies with experience and proven record of preserving such heritage monuments so that this heritage complex is preserved for the posterity to give them a glimpse of the Dogra architecture and culture. Not only the Mubarak Mandi Complex but also the other monuments such as the Bahu Fort,The forts in Akhnoor, Ramnagar, Reasi, Jaganoo etc and the temples such as Raghunath temple, Krimchi temples, Manwal temples and numerous other such monuments constructed in the years gone by need to be conserved and preserved. These monuments constitute our priceless heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers and they serve as our physical link with the past. These monuments tell us much more about our culture and history than that can be conveyed by the best of the books on history and culture. Thus, it is the foremost duty of the Government ,the members of civil society and the public at large to take care of these monuments and conserve and preserve them for the future generations.Efforts also need to be made to develop these monuments and the adjacent places as tourist destinations in order to attract more tourists to these wonderful monuments.
Yours etc….
