JAMMU, Aug 21: A pregnant woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ residence at Preet Nagar area here today, triggering allegations of murder from her parents.
Police said the deceased, identified as Jyoti Devi (27), wife of Rohit Chib, was found unconscious at her in-laws’ house and rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
They said the body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem, and police have started inquest proceedings to ascertain the cause of death.
Outside the hospital, the woman’s parents alleged that she had been tortured by her husband for several months and claimed that she was murdered.
They demanded immediate arrest of her husband, accusing him of being a drug addict.
Denying the allegations, Chib told reporters that his wife might have died due to complications caused by the continuous use of contraceptive pills without medical advice.
He said she had been staying at her paternal home in Reasi before returning to Preet Nagar a day earlier.
“This morning, she was found dead. Let the investigation bring out the truth. If I am found guilty, I am ready to face punishment,” he said.
Police said the case is under investigation, and further action will follow after the post-mortem and other legal formalities.
