JAMMU, Jan 30: Rich tributes were paid to seven martyrs of Praja Parishad movement, at a function organized by BJP at Jourian in their memory. These martyrs sacrificed their lives in Jourian on this day in 1953 Praja Parishad Movement for keeping National Flag top in the State.
At their Smadhi Sthal, former State presidents of party Ashok Khajuria and Shamsher Singh Manhas, State Vice-President Col. (retd) Uttam Singh, State general secretary Kavinder Gupta, senior leaders Sat Sharma (C.A), Kissan Morcha, State president Karan Singh, Chaman Lal Kanathia, Omi Khajuria and others paid their floral tributes.
Remembering these martyrs, Ashok Khajuria said that Jourian town has the distinction of being the land of martyrs and it is a matter of pride for the people who are born here. He said that the seven martyrs of Jourian were the nationalist youth who opposed the provision of separate flag, separate constitution and the post of Prime Minister.
Shamsher Singh Manhas said that mere remembering these martyrs on a particular day is not enough. The real tribute to them would only be if we all take pledge to take their mission ahead and work towards achieving the target of Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan by getting abolished the separate symbols and ensuring free flow of Indian Constitution.
Col. Uttam Singh said that while a soldier fights on the borders, these martyrs fought without gun and uniform for the sake of the nation and hence they are the real heroes.
Kavinder Gupta said that these martyrs deserve the real salutes as they left the luxuries of life and jumped into the movement.
Sat Sharma said that it is due to the supreme sacrifices of these martyrs that we see Indian tri-colour flying everywhere in the State. BJP leader Daljit Singh conducting the proceedings of programme while Distt. President Sukhdev Singh presented the vote of thanks.
Earlier, the BJP leaders also felicitated the family member of these seven martyrs besides presenting a shawl to Pawan Singh, a youth who lost his both eyes in 2008 land row agitation.
Sukhdev Singh, Suraj Singh, Jagdish Bhagat, Rajinder Singh, Omi Khajuria, Manmohan Singh, Hans Raj Singh, Jagdish Pandey, Mukesh Sharma, Joginder Singh, Bhishan Sharma, Bhupinder Singh, Balwan Singh, Ashok Chib, Shankar Singh, Faqir Chand and Munish Raja also paid their tributes.
