JAMMU, Dec 4: In a significant development, the Principal Commissioner, Vikram Sahai, handed over the possession of the Bar Room to the Income Tax Bar Association Jammu, resolving an issue that had been lingering for over two years since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sahai, who flew in specifically for the occasion, assured the gathering of Income Tax advocates that he would address any grievances the legal fraternity might face in the future. He emphasized that Tax Advocates are an integral part of the Income Tax Department, reiterating the importance of their role.
On behalf of the Association, Advocate V K Grover welcomed the Principal Commissioner. He noted that the resolution of the Bar Room issue, which had been a source of ongoing concern, would enable the Association to contribute more effectively on key matters such as professional and legal discussions on Union Budgets, addressing taxpayer difficulties, and fostering better relations with the Income Tax Department.
During his address, Principal Commissioner Vikram Sahai highlighted his concerns regarding the Advance Tax collection for September 2024, which he felt was unsatisfactory. He urged the Bar Members to encourage their clients to pay the outstanding Advance Tax by December 15, 2024, to ensure the shortfall from previous installments is covered.
President of the Income Tax Bar Association, Advocate Sat Mehta, commended the positive role played by Additional Commissioner Rajeev Gubgotra, whose efforts were instrumental in renovating the Bar Room and ensuring a smooth transition.
The event marked a turning point for the Income Tax Bar Association Jammu, with advocates hopeful that this resolution will pave the way for enhanced cooperation with the Income Tax Department moving forward.
