JAMMU, May 26: The social activists from Pir Panjal (PP) today held protest demonstration, demanding adequate compensation for the victims of Pakistani shelling recently.
A group of social activists hailing from twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch today assembled near Press Club of Jammu and started protest demonstration. They were carrying banners and placards in their hands depicting slogans with regard to their demands. They were also shouting slogans against Modi Government for not announcing relief package for the Pakistani shelling victims.
While talking to media-persons during protest, they said that people from Poonch and Rajouri have suffered a lot during cross border shelling along the LOC. They said people from Poonch and Mendhar suffered major damage in Pak shelling. Many people have lost their lives while houses, shops and other business establishments of the people were damaged. The people are still waiting for announcement of any relief package from the PM Modi Government.
One of the protesters said that people have suffered heavy losses and with mere Rs 50,000 or Rs 70,000 compensation it is not possible to reconstruct houses or shops. He said Rs 6 lakh Ex-gratia/ relief for the families of the deceased is most inadequate. They all should be declared as martyrs and at least Rs 25 lakhs be paid as ex-gratia/relief to the families of the deceased persons. He also demanded that individual bunkers should be provided to the people living closer to the LoC.
