JAMMU, June 10: The PDL/ TDL workers from various parts of the region working in various Corporations of unbundled Power Development Department held a strong protest near Canal Road here today.
The Power workers were shouting slogans in support of their demands and also against the higher authorities. While talking to the media-persons at the site, Akhil Sharma president PDL/ TDL and other Workers Union came down heavily on the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. Management for inviting bidders for providing manpower on contract basis despite nearly ten thousand PDL/TDL and other workers of PDD deputation to these corporations are yet to be regularised despite rules having been framed three years back for the regularisation of PDL/TDL and other workers of PDD.
The Government has not released the pending wages of several years of the PDL TDL and other workers of PDD , and before clearing their liability, private contactors are being engaged to make the PDL/ TDL workers irrelevant in the field and sabotage their regularisation demand. The move is clearly a privatization attempt and can never be supported by any Union of PDD. This Union had had two years back also thwarted such attempts to engage private contractors for providing manpower and scuttling the regularisation prospects of PDL TDL and other workers.
He said the PDL /TDL workers have stopped working after a notice period of 7 days was over and starting protest from June 11, 2025. PDL/TDL and other worker have started indefinite peaceful protest and all responsibility of power outage shall fall solely on the JPDCL management.
They said no private contractor .workers shall be allowed on work on any HT/LT feeder and sub-transmission lines.
They made a strong appeal to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Principal Secretary PDD and MD JPDCL to immediately withdraw all such tenders made by JPDCL Electric Divisions/STDs for hiring of manpower on contract basis.
Meanwhile, an official said that MD, JPDCL has suspended all outsourcing of human resources in the Corporation after receiving a communication this evening from the Chief Engineer (Distribution).
