Power supply disrupted for 10 hrs

JAMMU, Nov 1: The people from many areas of Jammu city were badly affected as the power supply remained disrupted for over 10 hours today.
The power supply in over 60% of the city localities remained affected from 7 am to 5 pm today. With this, the water supply to many areas was also badly hit. With the lack of wider publicity by the concerned PDD officials, the people were not well aware of the shutdown today. The public faced hard time as taps went dry in many houses, hospitals, nursing homes and other establishments/ complexes. Even the water supply was also affected at many places.
Chief Engineer, EM&RE, Jammu, Gurmeet Singh claimed that it was planned shutdown from 7 am to 1 pm, for executing some repair and maintenance work at Gladini Power Station. He, however, claimed that staff of System and Operations was on the job and they had cleared the shutdown around 1 pm. But delay was caused due to charging of the system and eruption of fault again when the power was released. He claimed to have communicated to the people through media about the shutdown.
Another senior engineer from System and Operations wing Jammu said that a planned shutdown had been declared for Sunday from 7 am to 1 pm. However, power could be restored at around 4.50 pm due to eruption of another fault at Sidhra Power Station. He said the power was released after Northern Grid in Delhi cleared the code needed for running the system. Some delay was on their part as well. He, however, said that shut down was cleared even before 1 pm but clearance from Delhi NRLDC and fault at Sidhra delayed the restoration of supplies in 50% of the city areas.
