RAMBAN, Dec 18: Portion of an under-construction tunnel of four-lane project along Jammu- Srinagar National Highway at Maroog caved in last night.
Rescue teams of Police rushed to the spot after getting news of the incident and there was no casualty as no one was present inside the tunnel at the time of the incident.
Official sources said a portion of 400 meters long under construction new tunnel NT-1, on the south portal, caved in last night but there was no loss of life reported.
A Foreman of the tunnel construction company said the caved-in portion is around 100 meters inside the 400 meter under-construction tunnel.

He said the caved-in portion of the tunnel is 5 to 7 meter long and 2 meter in depth.
The Foreman further said that 170 meter of excavation work on NT-1 south portal from Ramban side has been completed so far.
Tunnel officials said such happenings are a routine affair during tunnel construction works.
On Sunday teams of expert officers from NHAI, consultant team leader, Project Manager, contractor company, Dinesh Chandra R Aggarwal, sub-contractor company CPPL and other concerned officers visited the tunnel site and inspected the caved-in portion.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters, Ramban Pardeep Singh Sen said police will do its work.
SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Sandeep Singh Charak said a case under relevant sections has been registered for further investigations.
