Poppy cultivation on 15 kanals destroyed

SRINAGAR, May 5: Police in Kulgam along with Executive Magistrate, Wanpoh destroyed Poppy and ‘bung’ cultivation in Laram Ganjipora areas of Qazigund besides arresting one notorious drug peddler from Budgam Police.
Officials sources said in Kulgam, a police team from Police Post Mirbazar under the supervision of SDPO Qazigund along with Executive Magistrate Wanpoh have destroyed poppy and bung cultivation on almost 15 kanals of land in Laram, Ganjipora areas of Qazigund.
Meanwhile, Budgam Police at a checkpoint established at Kakawring Crossing intercepted a notorious drug peddler identified as Suhail Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Aziz Malik, a resident of Alamdar Colony Charar-i-Sharief.
“During checking, officers of PS Charar-i-Sharief have been able to recover 200 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 31/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Charar-i-Sharief and investigation has been initiated.
