JAMMU, June 11: Various political parties have expressed their concern over the scarcity of drinking water and un-scheduled power cuts.
A protest march was taken out by Jammu District BJP President Rajesh Gupta which had more than 300 people, including party activists and general public.
This protest march passed through various bazaars and finally culminated at Shahidi Chowk, where the women broke empty earthen pots while party leaders burnt effigy of the State’s NC-Congress Government for its total failure to ensure regular supply of electricity, drinking water and ration items in Government depots.
Rajesh Gupta, while speaking said that for the last few weeks, the electricity cuts are being imposed for long hours and people are made to suffer. Drinking water is also not supplied regularly. Both these commodities, which are necessary in these days, when the temperature is beating all past records, people have been left at the care of God. Not only this, the people are not given ration items on time. Consumers have to take rounds and rounds of ration depots to enquire about the availability of rice, wheat, sugar etc.
Among others present were Jaideep Sharma, Sunil Dogra, Vinay Gupta, Vikram Randhawa, Surinder, Priya Jral, Daleep Gupta, Bharat Sharma, Kuldeep Kandhari, Satpal Choudhary, etc.
Vice president PCC Thakur Hari Singh while addressing a meeting of Block Congress Committee Vijaypur and Parmandal, today said that the people of the twin blocks are facing hardships due to shortage of drinking water and scheduled and unscheduled power cuts.
He urged the Government to address grievances of the people and press into service water tankers to meet the requirement of drinking water, especially in the summer season and also provide electricity without unscheduled cuts.
He also expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of hospital road Ramgarh and demanded its immediate repair for the convenience of the patients. He also demanded special recruitment drive in the Army, Police and Para Military forces for the youth of Vijaypur and Parmandal blocks.
“At a time when people in J&K are facing worst ever water and power crisis those dream sellers who had promised to tap hundreds of megawatts of hydroelectricity and make State self reliant are maintaining a criminal silence on the subject. The temperature is soaring high and people protesting on roads but Government is silent and watching developments like a mute spectator”.
This was stated by People’s Democratic Party co-ordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency Abdul Hamid Choudhary.
He added that right from Lakhanpur to Jammu and Udhampur to Rajouri besides areas of Bani and Basohli and Nagrota are all reeling under acute water and power crisis but Government is nowhere in sight.
Almost every day people including women and children are staging sit-in against PDD and PHE Department but no official or Minister is ready to listen to the grievances of people.
The casual approach of Government in not maintaining regular water and power supply has even affected health of many aged and ailing people.
