Police seize vehicles involved in illegal mining, trace missing youth

JAMMU, Feb 12: Police seized multiple vehicles and heavy machinery during a special drive carried out on the intervening night of February 10 and 11 in South Zone here.
According to officials, the action was taken during routine patrolling, naka checking and targeted night operations under “Operation Ploughing.”
During the drive, officials said, police from different police posts seized 1 Mahindra tractor trolley, 1 excavator (JCB Komatsu), 1 hydraulic excavator (JCB) and several dumpers. Two tippers were also seized.
They said, on inspection, the drivers and operators failed to produce valid documents required for lawful mineral transportation.
All vehicles and machinery were accordingly seized on the spot and legal proceedings initiated under relevant laws, they said, adding that the District Mineral Officer has also been informed in each case for further necessary action.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Police in South Zone traced a missing youth and reunited him with his family after sustained efforts.
A police official said, on January 31, 2026, one Prem, son of Kala, originally a resident of Nepal and presently residing at Sunjawan, Bathindi, Jammu, reported at Police Post Bathindi that his 18-year-old younger brother, Suraj, had gone missing from home.
He said a missing report was entered in the Daily Diary vide DD number 07 dated January 31, 2026, and a search operation was immediately launched.
According to him, different police teams conducted extensive searches, verified leads and coordinated with allied agencies.
The missing youth was accordingly traced on February 11, 2026, he said, adding that after completing legal formalities, he was handed over safely to his elder brother.
