Srinagar, Jan 18: Police today intercepted a vehicle at Vilgam in Handwara and seized 750 kilograms of rice being transported illegally.
Authorities said that during routine naka checking at Vilgam, a police party noticed a suspicious vehicle and stopped it for inspection.
The vehicle was found carrying a large quantity of rice without valid authorization or supporting documents.
“The driver failed to produce any permit or proof regarding the lawful transportation of the commodity,” police said.
The consignment, weighing about 750 kg, was seized on the spot, and the vehicle was taken into custody.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station Vilgam under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized rice.
