Police restore Rs 50 lakh to cheating victim from Kargil

JAMMU, Sept 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Bakshi Nagar area here restored Rs 50 lakh to a resident of Kargil who had been cheated in a property deal in Jammu.
A police official said the victim, Mohammad Baqir of Barsu, Kargil, had purchased a house in Sarwal from Gurpreet Singh and Simranjit Kaur without being informed that the property was under litigation.
Following his complaint, he said, Bakshi Nagar Police Station registered an FIR under number 70/2025 and began investigation.
During the probe, he said, police found that the accused had invested the cheated amount in fixed deposits.
The accounts were frozen, and after completion of investigation, the court directed State Bank of India, Sarwal, to transfer the money back to the victim, he said.
The police official said the action was carried out by a team of Bakshi Nagar Police Station led by SHO Arjun Sharma, under the supervision of senior officers, including SDPO West Dr Satish Bhardwaj, SP North Vivek Shekhar, and SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, with the investigation handled by Police Post Sarwal.
He said the victim Mohammad Baqir expressed gratitude to Jammu and Kashmir Police for their professional approach in ensuring justice and returning his hard-earned money.
Meanwhile, the police official recalled that a few months ago, police had restored Rs 62 lakh to another victim of cheating from Hyderabad, further strengthening public trust in their work.
