SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Police today rescued an 11-year-old girl within hours of her abduction from the Chitragam Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district and arrested the accused.
According to a police spokesperson, the girl’s brother reported her missing around 2 p.m. via WhatsApp to Police Station Zainapora. “Police immediately registered e-FIR No. 91/2025 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a swift investigation,” he said.
Based on technical leads, he added, police traced the girl to the Kulgam district and rescued her safely. The accused, identified as Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Gund Chal Kulgam, was arrested at the scene.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s safety and online activities. He appealed to the public to report any suspicious incidents to the nearest police station or PCR Shopian at 9596768831.
