SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Police today recovered over one kilogram of charas and arrested two drug peddlers in separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts.
A police spokesperson said that acting on specific information, Police Station Zainapora registered a case, FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act, and obtained a search warrant from the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, 1st Class, Shopian.
A team led by SHO Zainapora, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal.
“During the search, one kilogram of charas-like substance and a grinder machine allegedly used for processing contraband were seized. The accused is absconding, police said, adding that efforts are underway to arrest him,” police said.
In a separate operation, a police team from Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspected peddler at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi.
The man, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh of Pombia Kulgam, was found in possession of 101 grams of charas-like substance.
A case (FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act) was registered at Police Station Zainapora, police said.
Meanwhile, in Budgam, police arrested another alleged peddler at Checkpora Kralpora and recovered 112 grams of charas-like substance.
He was identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora. A case, FIR No. 173/2025, has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and further investigation is underway.
