JAMMU, May 5: The Non-Gazetted Police Pensioners Welfare Forum today held a protest at Hari Singh Park, Jammu, under the chairmanship of Ajit Singh, raising several demands before the Jammu and Kashmir Government regarding pay anomalies and unequal treatment of retired police personnel.
The Forum highlighted discrimination in the implementation of Government Order Number 229-F of 2014 concerning pay anomalies.
They said the order is being applied prospectively, from the date it was issued, whereas its benefits should have been extended retrospectively from 1996 when the 5th Pay Commission recommendations were implemented across the State-excluding the Police Department.
The Forum noted that many affected pensioners have passed away and urged the Government to provide surviving members with their due share.
The pensioners also demanded that the ECH card facility-currently given to those who retired after 2019-be extended to all retired personnel, regardless of their retirement date.
Concerns were also raised over ex-service policemen who face challenges during legal proceedings. The Forum pointed out that they often appear in courts as witnesses without being granted travel allowance or other support, receiving only pensions.
Additionally, the Forum called for better pay and benefits for SPOs, on par with those in Punjab. They demanded uniform facilities, regular policy benefits, and parity between VDC members and SPOs in terms of service benefits, including risk allowance, medical, and ration money, on the lines of CAPFs.
The Forum concluded by stating that a Tribunal Court has already given an order in their favour, and they now expect the Government to implement the judgment at the earliest.
