RAJOURI, July 17: The police today arrested two drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of narcotic and psychotropic substances from their possession in Nowshera area.
The operation was carried out by a police party from Police Post Lamberi, led by Incharge PSI Sahil Choudhary under the supervision of SHO Nowshera, Inspector Arjun Magotra.
The police team during checking at Lamberi Naka spotted two individuals moving on- foot from Siot towards Nowshera. On seeing the police party, both individuals attempted to flee the spot. However, due to the swift response and alertness of the police team, the suspects were successfully apprehended.
Upon questioning, the accused revealed their identities as Shabaz Ahmed alias Machi, son of Niaz Ahmed, resident of Malik Market, Rajouri; and Mohd Iqbal, son of Mohd Sadeeq, resident of Jawahar Nagar, Rajouri. A thorough personal search of the duo led to the recovery of 13 grams of heroin and 1700 Tapentadol tablets – a banned psychotropic drug.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Police Station Nowshera under FIR No. 94/2025 U/S 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source of the contraband and to uncover any links to a wider drug trafficking network operating in the region.
