Police identifies 24 VPN users, FIRs registered

Srinagar, Jan 3: Police identified 24 Virtual Private Network (VPN) users in district Budgam and registered cases against them in order to prevent misuse of digital platforms.

Following prohibitory orders issued by the District Administration on 29 December 2025 banning unauthorized VPN usage, police carried out systematic verification and monitoring in Budgam.
Police said that during the last 5 days, 24 persons were identified for violating these orders.
“Based on investigation and technical analysis, two FIRs were registered against individuals with adverse terror-related backgrounds, underscoring the security risks posed by misuse of encrypted platforms. Additionally, security proceedings were initiated against eleven persons, aged between 18 and 40 years, for non-compliance with the prohibitory orders. They were bound down under Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and later released after due warning.”
