SRINAGAR, June 22: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar today gave clean chit to former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and said that the complaint against him filed before a local court for his alleged involvement in the killings during 2010 unrest is not based on the facts.
In a complaint filed through Advocate M S Reshi, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar, V S Bhou, had directed the SSP Srinagar to file its report before the court by or before July 20 without any fail.
The SSP Srinagar in its report to the court says: “In view of the factual position, which emerged during the course of enquiry nothing has been substantiated against accused no 1 and accused no 2 mentioned in the compliant.”
The SSP said that allegations mentioned in compliant were perused and it appears that the contentions mentioned in the compliant are that Ashiq Bukhari’s tenure as SSP Srinagar saw 120 deaths in 2010.
“It is not based on facts as Bukhari assumed charge of SSP Srinagar on 21.06.2010 in compliance with Government order on 20/6/2010. During his tenure as SSP Srinagar, district Srinagar witnessed 14 deaths which can be attributed to the dealing with law and order situation and in all these incidents FIRs have been lodged on relevant date and for investigation and these cases have been concluded”, the SSP’s report reads.
The report further says: “In addition to above, during the said period three deaths took place in suspicious circumstances for which inquest proceedings u/s 174 CrPC were initiated and undertaken. Of these, two deaths were closed due to drowning and the proceedings in the third one have been submitted to one man commission headed by M L Koul on 29.01.2015 for further proceedings.”
The SSP in his report says that compliant against Omar Abdullah and Ashiq Bukhari are based on distorted account of a casual talk that appeared in a news story.
