Police foils JCC march, dozens arrested

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, May 23: Police today foiled the protest march of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) of Government employees and detained dozens of employees while the JCC has called for Secretariat ‘Gherao’ on June 10 against non-fulfillment of the agreement reached out with the State Government.
The JCC had called for one- day protest demonstration at district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir in support of their demands that include the increase in retirement age from existing 58 to 60, removal of pay anomalies, regularization of daily rated workers etc.
Hundreds of employees took out protest march at all the district headquarters of the State to press for their demands.
Senior JCC leader and vice president of EJAC (Q) Nusrat Ahmad Beigh, led a protest in Srinagar from Directorate of School Education.
Police had sealed the main gate of Directorate of School Education office from where the employees had to take out a protest march. However, the employees managed to give slip to the police and reached the Partap Park. They were trying to march towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office to submit a memorandum, but police charged batons on them and foiled their march. Dozens of employees and their leaders were detained by the police.
The employee’s leader Muntazar Mohi-u-Din told the reporters before his detention that the State Government has forced the employees to come to the streets by not conceding to their demands.He said that the employees struggle would assume alarming proportions if their demands are not met. “We do not want common masses to suffer but at the same time Government too should be compassionate and sympathetic towards the employees,” the JCC leader said.
Reports from Shopian said that the JCC leader Mohammad Abbas led a protest march at the district headquarter and handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. At Ganderbal, protest demonstration was led by JCC leaders Sajjad Parray, Peer Nissar Ahmad and Mohammad Iqbal. They handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
In Jammu, the State employees under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) staged a protest in support of their demands including enhancement of retirement age, regularisation of policy for all daily workers, removal of pay anomalies etc.
A large number of employees  led by JCC leader  Mohammad Gafoor Dar, gathered outside the Divisional Commissioner’s office at Rail Head Complex here to press for their demands. They raised slogans in support of their demands.
Mr Dar while addressing alleged that State Government has failed to implement its agreement signed between JCC leadership and the Government in 2012. Even a committee was constituted for removing pay anomalies but its fate is yet to be ascertained.
“If the Government will not fulfill our demands at the earliest, employees from all the districts of the State under the banner of JCC will march towards Srinagar and `gherao’ the Civil Secretariat on June 10,” he added.
The major demands of the employees’ include enhancement of retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, regularisation policy for all daily rated workers and removal of pay anomalies. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Pardeep Gupta.
Similar protest demonstrations were held at all the district headquarters including Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch and Udhampur.
In Doda, Farooq Ahmd Sheikh was leading the protest. A delegation led by him later submitted a memorandum to the Dy Commissioner.
