Police foils bovine smuggling bid, rescues 16 animals

SAMBA, July 19: Samba police has foiled a bovine smuggling attempt in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal, arrested a bovine smuggler and rescued 16 bovines from the clutches of bovine smugglers.
Police said acting on information received from reliable sources, a team of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal while performing vehicle checking duty at NHW Naka Tapyal, signaled to stop a truck bearing Registration Number JK02BH-0467 for its checking. But the driver of the vehicle accelerated the speed and tried to escape from the spot.
The alert cops successfully intercepted the vehicle few meters away from the naka point. During checking of the vehicle, 16 bovines were found inside the vehicle which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally without any valid permission.
The bovine smuggler identified as Gurvinder Singh, son of Shaib Singh of Saraspur district Gurdaspur (Punjab) has been arrested and the vehicle used for transportation has also been seized.
A case FIR No. 73/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.
