Police foils bid of various activists to march towards Srinagar

KATHUA, Aug 14: Police detained three groups of social and religious activists who were on their way from different states of the country to hoist the Tricolour in Srinagar Kashmir on the occasion of Independence Day tomorrow.
One batch of activists of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Maha Sabha from Gujarat which was led by Chakarvarti Pani and Prachi Sadhvi from Gujarat were stopped by police at Lakhanpur and were not allowed to go ahead.
Protesting against the police action activists staged a dharna at Ravi bridge disrupting traffic on Jammu-Pathankot N H for half an hour. Later police shifted them to PWD guest house Kathua.
Another group of Brahman Sabha Punjab was also stopped by police at Lakhanpur as they too were on their way to hoist Tri Colour at Srinagar tomorrow. The third group of social activists belonging to Haryana and owing allegiance to Sir Chota Ram a prominent social activist of yesteryears was too stopped at Lakhanpur and their bid to hoist National Flag at Srinagar was foiled by the police. The activists of both these groups were shifted to PWD rest house where they held a dharna upto 3 pm. Later ASP Kathua, Khaleel Poswal visited the rest house and appealed them to return to their respective states and cooperate with government in restoration of peace in the State. On the plea of ASP the activists of religious bodies and social organizations dispersed and returned to their respective States.
