JAMMU, April 7: In a decisive action against illegal bovine smuggling, Jammu Police not only foiled an attempt to smuggle animals and rescued 37 bovines in the Nikki Tawi area, but also demolished an illegal structure linked to the unlawful activity during follow-up action.
A police team from Police Station Nowabad, led by PSI Nitish Khajuria (Incharge PP Canal) and PSI Arjun Choudhary under the supervision of SHO Inspector Vikas Hans was conducting routine patrolling on the night of April 5.
At around 8:30 pm, the team noticed three unidentified persons moving suspiciously with a group of bovine animals from Nikki Tawi towards 4th Bridge, Bhagwati Nagar. When signalled to stop, the suspects fled from the spot under the cover of darkness, abandoning the animals.
Upon inspection, police found 37 bovine animals, including cows and calves. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the animals were being illegally transported towards Kashmir without valid permission from the District Magistrate, Jammu, in violation of existing restrictions.
Accordingly, FIR Number 56/2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Nowabad, and further investigation has been taken up to identify and apprehend those involved.
During the course of investigation in FIR Number 56/2026 as well as in connection with FIR Number 50/2025 of Police Station Nowabad, police identified an illegal structure in the Nikki Tawi area allegedly linked to the unlawful activities.
Acting in accordance with due legal procedures, the structure was demolished on Monday as part of sustained action against the network involved in illegal bovine transportation.
