JAMMU, Dec 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have thwarted an illegal bovine transportation attempt at the Barmini area of Bathindi here.
During routine patrolling and naka checking on Thursday, a team of Police Post Bathindi led by incharge Police Post concerned, PSI Basharat Hussain, intercepted a load carrier (JK02DG-1474) at Barmini, but its driver instead accelerated the speed and fled away, leaving the vehicle abandoned at a distance, a police official said.
Upon inspection, he said, four bovines were found crammed inside the vehicle in a cruel manner without valid permission to transport them.
Accordingly, the vehicle was seized and a case FIR number 342/2025 under sections 299 and 223 of the BNS, along with section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was registered at Police Station Bahu fort, with further investigation set into motion, the police official added.
