JAMMU, Nov 26: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Janipur area have filed the chargesheet in a decade-old murder case registered under FIR number 08/2015 before the court of Sub-Judge, Jammu.
As per a statement, the challan has been produced against accused Ramesh Kumar of Dachan, Kishtwar, who has been absconding for the past ten years.
The investigation in the case, carried out under the supervision of SP North Vivek Sharma and led by SDPO West Dr Satish Bhardwaj and SHO Janipur Vikram Sahrma, has now been completed despite the accused remaining untraceable, it said.
The statement further said that post presentation of the challan, police have now initiated the trial-in-absentia proceedings under section 356 of the BNSS as per the new criminal laws.
“The action reflects the commitment of the police to ensure justice in long-pending cases as the matter will now move forward in the court,” added the statement.
