The Government should take into consideration all possible suggestions submitted by stake holders with regard to Jammu and Kashmir Police Draft Bill 2013. There is need to debate this Bill before it is passed by the Assembly.
There are certain provision which give sweeping powers to police and which need to be deleted or amended. The effort of law makers should be to make it people friendly rather than anti-people.
Many political parties and law-makers have raised their objections against the Bill in present forum. The apprehension regarding the dracorian nature of the Bill be allayed at the earliest.
Beside, the texture of the Bill should be such that the image of policeman in the eyes of public should be that of custodian of law and not that of a bullyman. After all Police is for the welfare of masses. Cordial Police-Public relations is an important component of a civilised society.
