SRINAGAR, Feb 10: Police today detained several casual Government employees who were protesting against the delay in the regularization of their jobs.
The protesters, including daily wagers, casual workers, and seasonal labourers from various Government departments, gathered at Press Enclave and attempted to march toward Residency Road. However, police stopped them and detained several protesters.
The demonstrators said around 61,000 workers in different Government departments are struggling without job security. “We are unable to feed our families. We want our services to be regularized. Many of our colleagues have died waiting for job security,” a protester said.

Demanding permanent jobs and regular salaries, the workers said they are on the brink of starvation. “Our children’s future is uncertain, and we often fail to pay their tuition fees or buy medicines for our elderly parents,” another protester added.
They accused the Government of neglecting their plight. “We do not want to protest, but the authorities leave us no choice. Their indifference is forcing us to take to the streets repeatedly,” an employee said.
