Police destroy narcotics worth over Rs 8 cr

JAMMU, Sept 5: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jammu district have destroyed a huge consignment of seized narcotics worth more than Rs 8 crores at Anmol Healthcare Destruction Plant in Vijaypur, Samba, under the supervision of the District Level Drug Destruction Committee.
A statement said the contraband included 2,954 kilograms and 671 grams of poppy straw seized in different criminal cases across Jammu district.
It said the destruction was carried out in compliance with court directions and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Officials said the process was conducted in the presence of a Magistrate, as mandated under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act.
The operation followed all legal protocols and environmental protection standards to ensure safe disposal, they said.
According to them, the step is part of the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking in the region, reaffirming police’s commitment to curb the menace through strict law enforcement and proper disposal of seized substances.
