Police cracks down on bovine smugglers, rescues 10 cattle

JAMMU, Mar 28: Rajouri police has intensified its efforts to curb bovine smuggling and has achieved significant success during checking conducted at different locations across the district.
Acting promptly, police teams intercepted two vehicles involved in illegal transportation of bovine animals, resulting in the rescue of 10 animals, arrest of two accused persons, and seizure of two vehicles.
During naka at Thalka under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nowshera, a police team led by SHO Nowshera, Inspector Arjun Mangotra, under the supervision of SDPO Nowshera, Sahil Mahajan, intercepted a Tipper/ vehicle, bearing registration number JK02BW-0824. Upon inspection, seven bovine animals were found loaded in a cruel manner.
The driver, Mohd Mustafa, son of Mohd Shafi, son of Rajdhani, Thanamandi, District Rajouri, was arrested on the spot. In this connection, FIR No. 59/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Nowshera, and investigation has been taken up.
In a separate incident, during naka at Chatyari, under the jurisdiction of Police Post Chingus, a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK11A-2475 was intercepted. During checking, three bovine animals were found loaded in a cruel manner.
The driver, Zafar Hussain, son of Mohd Sharief, resident of Ninganar, District Rajouri, was arrested. A case has been registered at Police Station Rajouri, and further investigation is underway.
An official said Rajouri Police remains committed to take strict legal action against individuals involved in bovine smuggling and urges the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in curbing such illegal activities.
