SRINAGAR, May 12: In a major development aimed at dismantling the terrorist ecosystem and cracking down on individuals linked to proscribed outfits, police today intensified its action under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in Srinagar.
A police spokesperson said that as part of an ongoing campaign, police teams carried out extensive searches across the city, targeting the residences of individuals suspected to be terrorist associates. “These operations were conducted in furtherance of investigations into several UAPA cases. So far, the residences of over 150 such individuals have been searched,” he said.

As part of the latest action, he said, searches were conducted at the residences of Adil Manzoor Langoo, a resident of Zaldagar involved in a case registered at Police Station Shaheed Gunj; Basit Bilal Makaya, a resident of Doomkadal linked to a UAPA case; Waseem Tariq Matta, a resident of Rampora named in a case under investigation at Police Station Chanpora; Fayaz Ahmad Lone, a former militant from Kaw Mohalla involved in a case at Police Station Khanyar; Mohammad Ashraf Kaloo of Aabi Gurpora also linked to the same case at Khanyar; Qazi Usman of Devi Angan Hawal under investigation in the same case; Muzaffar Ahmad Magray of Qalamdanpora named in an older case at Police Station M.R. Gunj; and Shahbaz Farooq Bhat of Palpora Noorbagh involved in a case at Police Station M.R. Gunj.
The spokesperson said the searches were conducted in accordance with legal procedures, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses, and under the supervision of Jammu and Kashmir Police officers. “The operations aimed to seize arms, documents, digital devices, and other materials relevant for evidence collection and intelligence gathering. The objective is to detect and deter any terrorist or conspiratorial activities threatening national security,” he said.
