Police conducts inspection of SIM card retailers in Jammu region

JAMMU, Dec 28: To ensure strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and curb the misuse of SIM cards for unlawful activities, the Police today conducted a comprehensive inspection of SIM card retailers in several districts of Jammu.
The drives were conducted in all districts including, Poonch, Kishtwar, Udhampur, Rajouri, Ramban, Samba, Doda and Kathua.
In Jammu, strong action has been taken against those selling SIM cards against fraudulent IDs.
These include areas under the jurisdiction of police stations in Khour, Kanachak, Domana, Nagrota, Bahu Fort, Gandhi Nagar, Bishnah, Bakshi Nagar, Nowabad, City and Akhnoor.
Special teams were deployed to inspect SIM card retailers and dealers, verifying their adherence to prescribed guidelines for issuing SIM cards.
The inspections focused on KYC compliance, record maintenance, and compliance with regulations issued by the Department of Telecommunications.
The drive is part of an ongoing effort to promote lawful usage of SIM cards and strengthen accountability of the vendors.
During the drive, credentials of SIM cards issued to various subscribers by the vendors were checked randomly viz-a-viz that of the end users.
The police teams directed the vendors for proper maintenance of records regarding issuances of SIM cards to subscribers as per telecom guidelines and security protocols governing the subject.
“Necessary legal action will be initiated against SIM card vendors found violating the rules governing the subject,” they said.
