SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Police today cane-charged a group of students who were seeking postponing of Board examinations that are scheduled to take place in November in Kashmir Division in Lal Chowk area of city centre.
The students who appeared near Clock Tower or Ghanta Ghar this morning sought suspension of Board examinations of class 10th and 12th in November, saying their syllabus is incomplete and the ongoing situation in Kashmir valley is not conducive for any kind of examinations.
“We haven’t completed our syllabus due to prevailing unrest in Kashmir valley. Our practicals haven’t taken place and we wonder how State Government is asking us to appear in exams. Besides, the situation here is not conducive this time for any academic activity,” said a 12th class student.
As students were chanting slogans, a contingent of police starting chasing them and also cane-charged several students after which they dispersed from the spot. The student community across the Kashmir valley is protesting against Government’s decision to hold the exam for 10th and 12th classes from November 14.
All the educational institutes including schools and colleges are shut across Valley since July 9 in the wake of top militant commander, Burhan Muzzafar Wani’ killing on July 8 this year and subsequent prevailing unrest. Despite several attempts, the State Government couldn’t manage to make schools function in the region.
