Police beat drums for proclaimed offender

JAMMU, May 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Miran Sahib area took strong action against a proclaimed offender by beating drums and making public announcements, following court directions.
As per a police official, the move was carried out in compliance with orders passed under Sections 87/88 CrPC, 82/83 Central CrPC, and 84/85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Ashok Kumar alias Shoka of Kirpind, Tehsil R S Pura.
According to him, the accused was evading arrest in connection with two serious criminal cases.
“He was wanted in FIR number 82 of 2014 under Sections 307, 382, 120-B, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code, and FIR number 125 of 2014 under Sections 400, 395, 342, 323, 382, 120-B, 34, 201 RPC, along with Sections 3, 4, and 25 of the Arms Act, registered at Police Station Miran Sahib,” the police official said.
To execute the court order, he said, the police pasted copies of the proclamation notice at the accused’s residence and other public places.
Loud announcements were also made by beating drums in and around the Kirpind area to inform the public and seek assistance in locating the absconding accused, he said.
Police have appealed to the general public to share any information about Ashok Kumar’s whereabouts.
Authorities have also warned that if he fails to surrender, further legal action will be initiated, including attachment of his property as per the law.
