Police attaches moveable property of habitual bovine smuggler

UDHAMPUR, Feb 26: In compliance with the orders passed by the court, Udhampur Police has attached a vehicle worth Rs 40 lakhs belonging to a habitual bovine smuggler.
The attached property is a Tata Motors Truck LPT 2518 TC, bearing Registration number JK01AC-0948 and Chassis number MAT44803765005684, owned by Rayees Ahmad Hajam, son of Mohd Akram Hajam of Uranhall, District Anantnag.
The vehicle was found involved in FIR No. 152/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 318(4) BNS & 11 PCA Act registered at Police Station Rehambal. During the course of investigation, the inquiry revealed that the offending vehicle had been used in unlawful activities related to bovine smuggling.
Accordingly, the said vehicle has been lawfully seized and provisionally attached under Section 107(5) BNSS.
Meanwhile, Police foiled a bovine smuggling attempt at Tikri when a Mahindra load carrier bearing registration number JK19A-3171 coming from Jammu towards Srinagar was stopped for checking.
During inspection of the vehicle, four bovine animals were found tied with ropes in a cruel manner and being transported illegally. The driver identified as Muzaffar Ahmed, son of Mohd Latief of Kedam, District Anantnag, was arrested on the spot. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 39/2026 under Sections 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered and further investigation is underway.
