Police arrests 3 drug peddlers

SRINAGAR, June 2: Police today arrested three drug-peddlers in Kupwara, Sopore, and Kulgam and recovered charas and poppy straw from their possession.
As per authorities, a police team from Police Post Drugmulla, at a checkpoint established at Drugmulla Market, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Shahrukh Shafi Mir, son of Mohammad Shafi Mir, resident of Kupwara.
“During search, a substantial quantity of Charas was recovered from his possession. Subsequently, he has been arrested,” police said.
Meanwhile, in Sopore, a police team arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Chinar Crossing, Warpora.
“He has been identified as Ghulam Hassan Dar, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, resident of Mohalla Teliyan, Arampora, Sopore. During the search, charas was recovered from his possession,” police said.
In Kulgam, authorities stated that a police team from Police Post Mirbazar, while patrolling at Furrah near the railway track, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Farooq Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, resident of Zadoora.
During the search, poppy straw weighing 1.19 kg was recovered from his possession, police said.
“Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated,” they said.
Police noted that efforts are being made to trace the source of the contraband and any possible links to a broader narcotics network operating in these areas.
