Srinagar, Dec 14: Police today arrested two persons allegedly involved in over a dozen cheating cases and recovered huge quantity of goods from them.
The accused were identified as Tahir Amin and Waheed Ahmad Bhat of Batmaloo area of Srinagar. A Police spokesman said that the duo along with a woman accomplice, Masrat Tahir wife of Tahir Amin have cheated more than 30 business establishments all over the Valley during last six months.
“The gang used social media applications and websites like OLX.com to cheat gullible customers by buying used electronic articles like Cell Phones, Ovens, LED TVs etc against fake bank cheques.”
“Similarly, they used to buy articles including electric wires, bath fitting, clothing from renowned showrooms of the Valley. Cheques of banks – Axis Bank, SBI and Punjab National Bank were used by them to make payments for the purchases”, spokesman said.
Police said: “The duo was arrested by Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh after getting a written complaint from one business man of the Sonwar area. Accordingly, a case (FIR 115/2017) under Section 420 RPC was registered in Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh.”
During investigation, dozens of other cheating instances by the gang came forth and accordingly gadgets/articles worth lakhs of rupees were recovered from them.
During investigation so far Police has recovered two mobile phone Note 8, one mobile phone C9 GALAXY, one Mobile phone V7 , one mobile phone GALAXY J7, two mobile IPhone, 7 mobile phone SAMSUNG, one mobile phoneJ5 GALAXY, one LED TV SAMSUNG, one LEDTV SMART TV, one LED TV PANASONIC, one LEDTV SONY, one LEDTV SANSUI, one INVERTER with battery, 33 Wire 1 mm HAVELLS, 9 WIRE 1.5mm POLYCAB, 15 Wire 2.5mm POLYCAB, 15 Wire Polycab 1 mm, one Microwave oven and 37 Jaguar bath fitting items from the gangsters.
Police said investigation of the case is still on and more arrests and recoveries are expected.
